RECYCLING & SUSTAINABILITY AT OOSC
Sustainability is so important for the future preservation of our environment, our mountains and ultimately our ski resorts, so we made the decision to make a major change in 2018 and review our entire production process.
We decided to buy only the best recycled polyester for our outerwear and organic cotton from the 2018/2019 season.
ORGANIC COTTON AGRICULTURE
Organic cotton is grown worldwide. Agricultural land is treated to remove any toxins and sufficient time is taken to properly clean the land. Fertilizers and pesticides are not used and the cotton plants are not genetically modified.
The process reduces pollution and water pollution by removing the chemicals and pesticides from the growth process. Because it is also grown worldwide, it also helps to reduce the CO2 footprint - we get our cotton from Europe to reduce transport distances!
All our soft goods (T-shirts, hoodies and sweatshirts) are made from organic cotton and are all GOTS certified . Our production also undergoes annual audits to comply with the FWF Code of Labor Practices in accordance with the conventions of the International Labor Organization - which means that the people who make our goods are paid fairly for this!
OUR PROCESS
All our technical ski jackets and ski suits are made from 51% recycled polyester made from plastic bottles.
We visited the factories and saw this process from the start that we found mind-expanding. And we bet you also wonder how plastic bottles become ski jackets? Well, like this:
- Plastic bottles are split by color, then cleaned, their labels and caps are removed, and cut into chips that then become pellets.
- The pellets are then fed through a funnel into a huge machine where they are melted down into fibers.
- The fibers are then pulled apart, pulled out, cut, stretched and pressed into bales.
- The bale yarn is then woven as we would know it
- We then print our amazing designs on the material
- The material is then cut and processed into our suits or jackets
